| dc.description.abstract | This thesis is concerned with the Optimisation of the European Bulk Delivery Network of a large chemical company based in the UK. The company supplies a large percentage ofTi02 in large dry bulk tankers across Europe. Due to the high cost associated with this form Of transport, packed pigment is transported to remote filling stations (FS), were tankers are filled and tanker journeys are short. The prime objective of this thesis is to find the optimum locations for filling stations throughout the European continent, and the secondary objective of this thesis is to reduce the cost of the European Bulk delivery operations. A mathematical model was used to locate the optimum locations for these FS. From these optimum locations a feasible scenario was constructed and proposed. With this proposed scenario there is a significant reduction in tanker travel distances as well as a significant reduction in the overall cost of serving European customers in bulk. | |
