This study examines how founders of emerging UK food and beverage ventures navigate the tension between achieving immediate market visibility and building enduring brand value under resource constraints. Accordingly, it asks: How do founders of emerging UK food and beverage start-ups navigate the tension between achieving immediate market visibility and building enduring brand value under resource constraints? The research contributes to literature on entrepreneurial branding and temporal strategy by exploring how temporal decision-making unfolds under scarcity. Adopting an interpretivist design, the study draws on seventeen semi-structured interviews with founders and senior brand decision-makers from early-stage UK F&B start ups. Data were analysed thematically and organised along an E1–E4 orientation continuum, representing increasing venture maturity and evolving decision logics. Trustworthiness was ensured through a transparent audit trail, reflexive journaling, verbatim evidence, and cross-case comparison. Five themes emerged that explain how temporal choices are made in practice: temporal fluidity, dynamic switching across horizons; decision logics, pragmatic opportunism tempered by principle; evolution and maturity, institutionalising entrepreneurial branding; measurement and learning loops, lightweight yet cumulative sensemaking; and constraints and authenticity, resource limits as a credible source of meaning. The analysis shows a progression from reactive, channel-led visibility to purpose-anchored brand building in which short-term actions increasingly serve a coherent long-term narrative. This study contributes theoretically by conceptualising temporal fluidity as a founder capability that coordinates short and long horizons under uncertainty, and by reframing constraint as an authenticity engine rather than merely a limitation. Practically, it offers staged recommendations for founders and ecosystem actors (accelerators and investors) on resourcing, measurement, and governance that align immediate traction with brand longevity. The study is situated within UK founder-led F&B ventures; future research could explore the transferability of the E1–E4 continuum across categories and geographies.
